Welcome to my Web Page

Here are some truly unique tidbits which I learned about gold when I became interested in owning some of it as an investment.

Thanks for allowing me to share it with you..

My name is Bill Allbritton in case you are coming here for the first time.

Who is Bill Allbritton?

  1. Gold alloy is Gold mixed with other minerals, such as copper, iron, or silver which are often used in jewelry to add strength to the gold, which is inherently too soft to work by itself.
  2. Alluvial Gold is gold brought to the surface by flowing water.
  3. An Amalgam is Gold or silver mixed with mercury. {Remember the headlines about the fears of mercury in dental appliances some few years ago?]

  4. Fool's Gold? There are a number of minerals which are seen as shiny, golden flakes which are easy for people to believe is the true thing. The most famous "fool's gold" is common Sulfide or Pyrite. A host of other minerals including Chalcopyrite and Marcasite, and weathered flakes of Biotite have sufficient gold coloring to be taken as gold.
However, my most important discovery was critical information about The London Good Delivery Bar which Uncle Sam at Fort Knox, and Central Banks have in underground vaults around the world.
This is the Gold Bar which one sees in the movies. It is about the size of a loaf of party rye bread or small brick. They weigh as closely as possible to exactly 400 grams or about 27 U.S. pounds.

Its market value is determined by the price of gold which is set or "fixed" in London at the close of each business day. Although thoughts of a conspiracy might spring quickly to mind, it's a long running tradition in the universe of gold. Click Here for a more complete history.

These bars are the basic units of trade in the world of gold. Meticulous records are maintained by carefully monitored vault operators to maintain their market integrity as 99.999% pure gold or better. This custom continues indefinitely or until the bars are acquired by an end-user for meltdown into a variety of industrial applications.

International gold dealers buy and sell these valuable objects on a sight unseen basis with only an exchange of paperwork to acknowledge the transaction. The large gold dealers, refineries, governmental agencies and central banks of the world enjoy the benefits of a highly competitive bullion market which is out of bounds for most individual players.

For one thing, the professional gold market does not allow an individual to own less than 100% of an intact bar. This means an investment requirement usually in excess of a hundred thousand dollars for a single unit. In addition to this initial hurdle, the cost of storage in an accredited vault would be prohibitive for an indisidual owning less than ten to fifteen bars.

It's no wonder that most individuals think of coins and small bars - of one to ten ounces, as the only way to own gold as an investment.

Although attractive to collectors, gold coins and smaller bars often have markup charges of 30% or more which dilutes their value as an investment.

Take a closer look
at a vastly superior alternative to the purchase of such articles as an investment.

[Buying as a collector is an entirely different matter, of course.]

Did you know the U.S. Gold Eagle Coin has a weight of exactly one Troy Ounce which is about 10% larger than a US Ounce.

A gram of gold is equal to slightly more than 1/3rd of a Troy Ounce.

Click Here to view a most attractive collection of African Masks, musical instruments and African Art all of which handcrafted by local artisians who receive a fair wage for their work.

This is my favorite piece-- the Good Luck Fertility Doll which is a treasured African art possession. It is gifted to various individuals at different moments within their lives as a display of virility and youth.

Kente Cloth is a traditional hand-woven, silklike cloth that originates in small villages in an assortment of styles and patterns, Bonwire, for example, a small town located right outside from Kumase in Ghana. All Kente Cloth, from any village across Africa is filled with the spiritual influences and heritage that has made the material a cultural asset for hundreds of years. It strikes me as ideal material to fashion into a highly attractive skirt or other garment. I might use a piece as a wall covering like I would a painting.
